The most-saved small bedroom on Pinterest is nine square metres and still fits a queen bed. The trick is not clever furniture. It is that everything touches a wall and the bed sits in the corner, not the centre.

The corner-bed rule

Centring a bed costs you two walkways. Pushing it into the corner returns a full wall for storage and leaves one generous walkway instead of two mean ones.

What goes vertical

Everything above 120cm: shelves over the door, hooks to shoulder height, the mirror full-length on the wardrobe rather than freestanding.

The measurements

Bed 160×200 in the corner, 70cm walkway, 45cm-deep wardrobe on the opposite wall, reading chair 65cm wide at the window. That is the whole floor plan.
